Weston Opens the Doors to Playhouse with a World Premiere Musical, Now thru 7/12

Combining the sexual combustibility of Kiss Me, Kate, the Faustian bargaining of Damn Yankees, and the tuneful retro score of Grease, Broadway composer Paul Gordon's latest work, Analog and Vinyl, kicks off the Weston Playhouse's 2014 Summer theatre season with a bang -- running from today, June 26-July 12.

Set in a vintage record shop, the musical comedy follows struggling store-owner Harrison and his volunteer employee Rodeo Girl, when a customer with unusual powers makes them an offer they can hardly refuse. It's a show for those who romanticize about the days when one's album collection was a prized possession, and when relationships developed without digital distraction.

Weston's world premiere production is directed by Michael Berresse who has an accomplished career as both a Broadway director ([title of show]) and a theatre and film actor (The Bourne Legacy,) and who directed Weston's 2013 acclaimed production of Next to Normal. "Analog & Vinyl celebrates the great joy and nostalgia that accompanies vinyl music, both through its story and its character-driven, diverse and very tuneful score," says Berresse. "It is a very human-scaled story about the ways in which we struggle to connect in this fast-paced, media driven world. Perhaps most importantly, it is a quirky, comic fable about the temptation to rewrite the life we have and the danger of concealing the truth of who we know ourselves to be."

The production stars Sarah Stiles as Rodeo Girl (B'way: Avenue Q and Spelling Bee,) Preston Sadleir as Harrison (upcoming B'way production of Titanic,) and Beth Glover as the mysterious stranger (an award-winning regional and Off-Broadway actress and comedienne.) The performers are backed up by a full orchestra of New York-based musicians.

Analog and Vinyl runs June 26 through July 12 at the Weston Playhouse, on the Village Green (12 Park Street, Weston.) Show times are Tuesdays-Saturdays at 7:30pm, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2pm, and Sundays at 3pm. The show runs eighty minutes with no intermission. Pre-show dinner is available at the Playhouse in the room with the view - the Café at the Falls. The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company is an award-winning nonprofit theatre nationally known for its multi-stage summer season, education and new works programs. A $10 million capital campaign is currently underway, with plans to build a year-round cultural center for Southern Vermont - a theatre arts incubator with retreats, workshops and a new studio theatre at Weston's Walker Farm.
