The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company will introduce the creative teams behind four new musicals during a Salon Reception at its Playhouse on the Village Green, Saturday, May 3rd from 4 to 6 pm. BWW Reviews: Northern Stage's THE SPITFIRE GRILL is a Must See

I have seen the movie version of The Spitfire Grill on multiple occasions. I had taken a liking to it for a couple different reasons. The movie was set in Gilead, Maine, which I grew up about 20 minutes from. The film was shot on locations near where I currently live and where I attended college. At the time it was a big deal and many locals where cast as extras. Now almost 20 years later, I had the opportunity to view the adapted musical version at Northern Stage in White River Junction, Vermont. If I may be so blunt, you must see this show. (more...)

Lost Nation Theater continues its presentation of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, OUR TOWN, through April 27 at Montpelier's City Hall Arts Center. First produced in New York City in 1938, the play enjoyed four subsequent Broadway revivals, making it one of the best-known pieces of classic American theater. Lost Nation's production features a 19-member company under the direction of Kim Allen Bent. (more...)

YOLANDA'S OLD TIME GOSPEL HOUR, while Vermonters may know her from the public access television show she co-hosted with Cherie Tartt from the mid-'90s through 2001, or from her band, Yolanda & the Plastic Family. The Dorset Theatre Festival and Perfect Wife have combined forces to present the up and coming singer/songwriter Caroline Rose on April 25th at The Perfect Wife Restaurant in Manchester in an event that will raise funds for the DTF Giving Back Programs. Each year, the Dorset Theatre Festival underwrites free tickets to the following community groups: Firefighters, Police, EMS Workers, Local Farmers, Military and their families, the Refuse to Use graduates, Special Needs Community and, new this year. John Cariani's play, ALMOST, MAINE, about the search for love in a small New England town, has been delighting audiences all across New England since it premiered in Portland in 2004. Its Off-Broadway premiere in 2006 convinced Manhattan that amour is alive and well to their north. Middlebury Community Players will present the first Middlebury production of the play Thursday, May 1 through Sunday, May 4 at Town Hall Theater. (more...)

Josh Panda Coming to Town Hall Theater, 4/25

Josh Panda is no stranger to Town Hall Theater. Back in February, he was an instructor at THT's 'Rock-It Science' music camp, where he taught young musicians the art of rock-n-roll. He has performed as a guest of The Grift. But for the first time, he will head-line as Town Hall Theater plays host to Josh Panda and the Hot Damned. 'We've been wanting to snag Josh and his band for a long time. We're thrilled that he's playing Town Hall Theater,' said executive director Doug Anderson. (more...)

Sports writers have called Middlebury Union High School Tigers' 1983 championship win 'the greatest upset in Vermont High School sports history.' The extraordinary journey has been chronicled in a film, including archival footage and present-day interviews. The premiere on Friday includes a reception with the champions, food, & drink. The film will also be shown on Saturday, March 29. Tickets, $30 on 3/28, $10 on 3/29, are available by calling 802-382-9222, at www.townhalltheater.org, or at the box office Monday-Saturday, noon - 5:00pm. The film, THE GREEN MOUNTAIN UPSET, from executive producer and Middlebury Union '83 graduate Mark Mooney, Jr., premieres Friday, March 28, at 7 p.m., at Middlebury, Vermont's landmark Town Hall Theater. Team members will be celebrated that night at a reception accompanying the screening. A second showing will be held at the Town Hall on March 29, at 7 p.m., to be followed by a national DVD release.
