Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announced today that nominations for the Zelda Fichandler Award, for a director or choreographer who is transforming theatre in the Central Region, are now being accepted through July 18, 2022. 

The Tony Awards® Administration Committee has announced that based on the recommendation by the American Theatre Critics Association, Court Theatre of Chicago will be the recipient of the 2022 Regional Theatre Tony Award. The honor is accompanied by a grant of $25,000, made possible by City National Bank’s generous support.

For the 68th season, Court Theatre will share a beloved, sharp-witted classic comedy; a drama set in Apartheid-era South Africa that speaks directly to our moment; an award-winning Caryl Churchill play about the lives of women farm laborers in 1970s England; and a celebratory, exuberant musical that re-imagines the story of Oedipus.

Hyde Park School of Dance will bring together fans of ballet, modern, and hip hop with the return of live performance in its annual presentation of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Performances are December 10–12 at Mandel Hall on the University of Chicago campus, 1131 E. 57th Street, Chicago.

Vitale Artistic Director, and Executive Director Angel Ysaguirre, extends the first show of its 2021/2022 Season, The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice, by William Shakespeare. Specifically conceived for a smaller audience and co-directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell and Gabrielle Randle-Bent, Othello features Kelvin Roston Jr., in the titular role.

Court Theatre has announced a return to live theatrical programming with its 2021/22 Season. The 2021/22 Season has Court returning to the stage with The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice which will now open the 2021/22 Season in October, specifically conceived for a smaller audience.

Owen McCafferty's Titanic (Scenes from the British Wreck Commissioner's Inquiry, 1912) tells the story of the sinking of the RMS Titanic using verbatim testimonies from a court investigation of the wreck.

Court Theatre has announced updates to its 2020/21 Season in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The reimagined season has Court returning to the stage in February 2021 with Owen McCafferty's Titanic (Scenes from the British Wreck Commissioner's Inquiry, 1912), followed by Shakespeare's Othello, and then August Wilson's Two Trains Running.

Court Theatre has announced The Liminal Space, which offers a space for quiet contemplation, as the theatre live-streams their empty stage to allow viewers to remember and contemplate all that has transpired between their theatre's walls and their own ambitions for what theatre can be in the future.
