Patricia Van Kirk Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was created in 2007 by Nikki Coyote for lesbians studying theater or visual arts with a commitment to social justice.

About this Scholarship:

Patricia Van Kirk, our dear and beloved friend, died unexpectedly on March 23, 2005 at the age of 54 in Mazatlan, Mexico. She was born on Nov. 26, 1950 in Philadelphia.

Patricia, a breast cancer survivor, was an avid photographer, gardener, and world traveler who had a tender appreciation for God’s creations. She blessed her loved ones with her insight, wisdom, passion for life, and wonderful wit. Patricia had a unique ability to see the beauty in the things and people around her, and to draw all of us who knew her into her compassionate vision.

Patricia valued diversity and was gifted at helping people see their own worth. She touched many lives through her work as Director of Front Room Theater and Hidden Histories, and through her position at Metro Transit as a Base Chief.

We will remember Patricia for her love, laughter, generosity, wisdom, and for the value she placed on friendships. She lives in every flower, sunset, and magic moment. We will miss her for always and will love her forever. We will honor her life by our own acts of kindness.

The Patricia Van Kirk Memorial Scholarship extends her legacy and passion for life, humanity, and beauty to a new generation of theatre and visual arts scholars.
