Jason Moore studied acting and directing as a theater arts major at the University of California, Los Angeles, and continued at UCLA as a film directing major in the M.F.A. program. His thesis film, Paradise, Nebraska, won UCLA's top prize, the Spotlight Award for best film of the year. Paradise was a hit on the festival circuit and was sold to more than 20 domestic and international networks, including Showtime and the Sundance Channel.
After graduating, he began directing commercials. He found them to be a natural extension of short filmmaking, and he enjoyed the fast pace and quick turnaround of projects. His first spot, a spoof of Nike's “Freestyle,†went viral, downloaded and e-mailed hundreds of thousands of times. The spot gained media attention with articles in Creativity, ‘Boards, and Shoot magazine, and was featured in Campaign Screen's DVD of the world's most creative and innovative commercials. Moore has directed commercials around the world, working with agencies such as DraftFCB, BBDO, DDB, Attik and JWT.
In addition to commercials, Moore has worked as a television field director and producer, with credits on shows such as Strictly Dr. Drew, Who Gets the Dog?, Hooked Up with Tom Colicchio and more. He has also continued to direct short films; his film American Seoul was invited to over a dozen festivals and was the showcase film at the MTV Filmmakers Reception for the Asian American International Film Festival.
His recent spots for the U.S. Department of Transportation were featured in the Shoot magazine New Directors Showcase and won Telly and Mobius awards.
Moore has been teaching digital film and television production for over a decade and has taught in Los Angeles, New York and Kingston, Jamaica. He is also the author of the textbook Short Film Distribution: Film Festivals, the Internet, and Self-Promotion.
